Habits serve wellness by reducing the cognitive load of daily choice. We create routine to alleviate pain and conserve resources. Within the realm of habit, addictions are born--some are behavioral, others chemical. Usually, addiction isn't the misfortune of happenstance, but a slowly integrated coping mechanism. We relieve psychological pain while slowly eroding the long term wellness of our lives.

Here at Flourishing Life Society, we recognize that a growing segment of our society have fallen into harmful addictions. FLS attention given to the process of change often has addiction in mind. We all struggle with change, moving forward, however, when change involves abandoning addictions, often a new life must be created as part of the process. We escape addiction, not from subtracting a substance but by adding meaning, purpose, and others to the desolate landscape of our experience.
